    a little confused on z-wave

    Hi all,

i got a GE outdoor power switch controlling my patio string lights...
sure i can turn it on and off from alarm.com and the app
but that is soooo inconvenient... specially the app... just takes tooo long
that's after one finds where one left the phone, then find the app, then log in
then get to the switch (and there is no fedback, cant tell if its on or off)

so... i want to make a wall switch or remote do it...

can say the minimote, be bound to the GC2, and when a button on it is pushed, recall a scene?
(i see no scenes on alarm.com)

i did see the idea taking a switch connecting it to a DW10, but will that work both ways, as ON and OFF?
can you make events, when sensor opens and closes?

or is the GC2, just too limited as a controller?

    thanks
    m

you can automate the patio string lights for time, event, sunrise/sunset, or you can just turn them on/off at the panel and TS1 touchpad itself.

    yes.

well, that just blows.... is this just some limitation of the GC2?

even at the panel, its slow.... i want to do it right at my way out to patio

Zwave rules are downloaded to panel, and run locally.

I have created light automation rules and scenes, and when I turn them on/off via panel or TS1 they are instant. if yours are slow, check your mesh network, and rediscover.

There is a delay when doing the commands remotely via app or alarm.com. Speeds are dependent on your cellular connection. To get instantaneous speeds you may want to go dual path with the broadband bridge.

i ment, the concept of walking over to the panel, waking it up, going to z-wave, then finding the switch in question, then selecting it, then turning it on

    SLOOOW!

    wall switch = fast

there is gotta be a way

(and actually the speed from alarm.com is really good, within 2-3 sec)

    but thats not the point

there is no way to add a scene controller?

Then do the wall switch and dw10

yea.. sure looks like that "hack" is the only way...

i gonna have to grab a dw10 and at least try it
once i create the rule on alarm.com, it does send them to panel?
or can i create this rule completly on panel
as it i would think it be faster, 2-3 sec is slow, people will flick the switch multiple times

use ADC to create the rules.

Two rules: use dw10 as trigger zone type 23, turn lights on when open, turn lights off when closed.

if you have any issues, simply have your dealer repush the rules on ADC.

If you add a Go Bridge it should make the signaling almost instant from alarm.com app, that is another option here is a link to it: http://buy2gig.com/Go-Bridge.html

This will only make remote commands almost instant.

All rules are downloaded to panel, and are executed locally. If OP used a DW10 and switch and flips it on/off it wont use cellular/broadband remote signaling.
