Any tutorials or step by step on going local only (no monitoring)?

First I have to say great site! Tons of info here.
Have a friend with a 2Gig panel and Alarm.com monitoring, his contract is up and he didn't renew.
He wants me (former security system/Automation installer, now retired) to help him change his system over and still wants remote control ability through his iPhone and wife's Android.
Is there any step by step information anywhere here to do that?
I've read through a bunch on how to change monitoring services, but nothing (at least I haven't found it yet) on going local only and still retaining remote access.
    Can this even be done?

    thanks,
    Danny

    Nope.

To have remote interactive capability via mobile you will need the backend service, (e.g. alarm.com). runs approx $14/month ,http://buy2gig.com/Interactive-Plans.html no contract.

You may be able to use POTS, have it call your mobile (but you won't know for what), and have somewhat limited remote access if you call into it. For more info see: http://www.2gigforum.com/threads/132...odule-question

What about connecting up another hub like a Wink or a Vera and connecting the locks, thermostat, etc to that device? Is the possible or does Vivint have all the devices locked down to where you can't connect them to 3rd party hubs?

My goal would be to have the alarm system just be a noisemaker but still be able to control the locks and thermostat with another device.

The Vivint panel is simply a 2GIG panel. If his panel is locked out, you will have to disable the lockout via alarm.com airfx. see: http://www.2gigforum.com/threads/3-H...ch-monitoring)

You can use the 2GIG panel as a secondary zwave panel to another that supports it, but you might want to make sure its unlocked, fully enabled, and running the newest firmware.

    For fully enabling/optimizing a 2GIG panel, see: http://www.2gigforum.com/threads/5-2...panel-settings

If the panel is locked out, and you dont want to get a new alarm.com cell module/plan, your option may be to replace the panel. A new 2GIG panel runs $150 on Newegg.

Honestly in the end, if you are looking at replacing the panel, obtaining a vera system, etc, it may be more cost effective to simply replace the cell module itself, and get a $14/month no contract Alarm.com plan for remote interactive capabilities for the security aspect and home automation features.
